Of Luffas and Dandruff Shampoo

Readers of my blog have been scant for some time, but I guess the “Tears” post was a little too much for anyone to comment on.  Oh well.

The big news is: Charis has her cast off.  Eight weeks in a cast, and I didn’t post one picture of her.  That is because the only ones I took were on my stupid phone which will not allow me to upload photos to my computer.  Since we are too cheap (or broke) to pay for the upgrade in service to be able to send the photos from my phone, I really shouldn’t take pictures with it!

After the cast was removed, her skin underneath was GROSS!!!!  It was so dry and flaky, I didn’t want her on me.  Even after using a luffa on her arm, it was flaky.  Then at her glorious bath last night (glorious because she could actually be in the tub long enough to get really clean), I had a revelation.  I thought, “If dandruff shampoo works on dead dry skin on the skalp, perhaps it will help remove the dead dry skin from her arm.”  So I used dandruff shampoo and the luffa on her arm, and it made a huge difference.  The flakes all came off.  Now her skin is rough, but we are putting lotion on it whenever we can.  It will be back to normal soon.  Long sleeves were in order for today so the dry skin won’t distract her to much at school.

  1. Glad her cast is off! I remember those days…I had a cast on my foot for what seemed forever when I was in junior high. A real pain when you like to take showers.

As far as moisturizers, I highly recommend Moisturel. A litlte pricey, but great stuff.

  2. Don’t forget the Halloween pictures. They count ’cause in them her cast is visible. I’m wondering if her arm is stiff or sore apart from the dead skin issues?

PS: No comments does not equate to “scant readers.” I still might end up adding my 2 cents worth to the “Tears” post.

  3. Angie,

Thanks for the moisturizer tip. If the cheap, extremely scented stuff that her 9-year-old sister keeps applying doesn’t do the trick, we’ll be on the lookout for some good stuff. Seriously though, I may check out the Moisturel for my own dry skin issues 🙂

    Brandy,
    Thanks for dropping by.

    Mom,
Yes. Her arm was definitely sore and stiff from being in the same position for so long. She really cried more after the cast was removed than she did when she broke her arm. As the circulation was returning to normal, she complained of a stinging feeling. She
    was much better today.

  4. What a clever idea! Wish I’d thought of that when Andrew’s leg was in a cast for 10 weeks a couple years ago! I’ll store it up for next time – because goodness knows with that kid there WILL be a next time. ;;-)

Sorry I’ve not been in the blog world much. Life with 5 is busy and I’m trying to be more intentional about how I spend my days. Face*book is a quickie way to update and stay in touch, while blogging is a little bigger time commitment!

    Hope you guys are well!

  5. Jennifer,

I only thought of using dandruff shampoo because we have a few kids with scalp issues, so was just in the bathroom staring me in the face.
