Dog Days & Tuesday Tunes

Last Friday morning, I picked up this little guy from a church friend’s home.  If you read her blog, you will see that they were just ready to have a dog-free home.  We weren’t really looking for a dog, but Mark and I both thought the same thing when we saw his cute little face on our friend’s blog.  So we decided adding Simon to our family was a good move.  After 4 days, we still feel that way.  He is just the right size, about 30 pounds, he’s well-behaved, and he is friendly.  We are enjoying him and look forward to having him around for a long time.  The kids are enjoying him, too.

As far as Tuesday Tunes go, I haven’t been listening to much adult music lately.  Veggie Tunes 1 & 2 are what Charis requests most in the van.  We occasionally get a dose of other children’s favorites like the “Hokey Pokey” and “A Tisket, A Tasket.”

Seriously though, I have been listening to old Rich Mullens Cds.  I just love the song “Creed” on his Songs cd.  This is nothing new, since Rich Mullens is no longer around to record anything new, but I just love the folk style of his music.  I guess I would call it pensive.

The other cd I have been pulling out lately is Michael Card’s Starkindler.  I love the old hymns set in new arrangements.

These cds are like the music I enjoyed 15 and 20 years ago.  I am open to checking out new stuff, but I guess sometimes you just want to listen to something familiar that makes you feel comfortable and safe.

  1. I’ve been waiting patiently for a picture/report about Simon to show up on your blog! I look forward to meeting him in person one of these days. Judging by his background, weight and age, I’m hopeful that he won’t be quite as intimidating as Frisky.

And regarding old, familiar music, I agree wholeheartedly. Though it’s also fun to hear the new, knowing that some of it will eventually become another part of the old, familiar repertoire.

  2. What a precious doggie! Simon sounds like the perfect dog for a family – already broken in and small enough to get exercise playing with children. Congrats. As for the Tuesday Tunes… funny you should mention Rich Mullins … I was thinking about his music the other day. Something about one of Fernando Ortega’s songs on In the Shadow of Your Wings reminded me of Rich. Love Starkindler, too. Do you have Poema? Love that one!

  3. Mom,
The waiting period had to do with me not having the time to upload photos from my digital camera until today.

    Angie,
    Thanks for the congrats.

    Jennifer,
Yeah. We felt like Simon was the perfect fit for us, so we had to “strike while the iron was hot.”
And, no, I don’t have Poema. I’ll have to check it out.

  4. Jennifer,

So glad to hear it’s going well with Simon. Everytime I think, “Where’s the dog?” or “I need to let the dog in.” I feel such a sense of relief when I remember again that he’s not here.

And he IS such a good dog – so sweet – and of course he’s well-behaved…he lived with me!

  5. Hey Jennifer!
I am rather late to the party, as usual!

Just wanted to add my two cents to the discussion…

    1. Cute dog. Really cute. And it sounds like he has a delightful personality.

    2. I love love love love Rich Mullins. Also Michael Card. Also Fernando Ortega. The term “comfort music” comes to mind, but I’m not sure that is a real term. Sort of like “comfort food”, but for the ears….

    3. My 3 year old consistently requests mariachi music in the car. What’s with that? 🙂
