If this was coming to Saint Louis…

… I would so be there!

The demon-destroying “chosen one” and her evil-fighting team are singing out their deepest, darkest secrets on the big screen, and you can join in. “Once More with Feeling,” the Emmy-nominated musical episode from Joss Whedon’s cult television series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” is touring the country as an interactive sing-a-long…(source).

As the end credits roll, series mastermind Joss Whedon, who snuck into a back-row seat right after the program began, strides down the aisle. It’s the first Buffy sing-along he’s ever been to, and he has the sheepish, overwhelmed look of someone who’s just received a massive outpouring of love. (source)

And the great thing is that you don’t need DVDs. You can just get practiced up with youtube. For example:

Hat Tip: Jennifer, who told me about it after she heard it on NPR.

Back to the old title, “Once More, With Feeling”

I got tired of seeing my name at the top of this page. I thought about something new. I toyed for ten seconds with “play the man” but that is far too pretentious and would obligate me to focus on the theological controversy. I know that topic already dominates but such a title would make it official and prolong it.

So I went back to “once more, with feeling.” I don’t know that I want to be committed to pop tv references, but once more appeals to me as a blogging truism (first you live it then you blog it). So I’m going with it for now…

And again, without committing myself, here’s a snip for you enjoyment. It’s Anya in “selfless” and it would take quite a bit of explaining to describe what an ingenious scene this is. The seventh season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was at once the worst (maybe second to the sixth season of BtVS) and yet had some of the best episodes ever.

Ron Paul on G4

I don’t think we get G4 any more and this posting does not constitute an admission that I occasionally watch it about games whose platforms I cannot afford…

I realize we probably all need to get used to saying “Madam President,” but at least we have one Republican who is not going to bore us in the race.

I’m still hoping that Fred Thompson will run, win, and be a good president, but I’m not sure of any of those. On the other hand, with Hillary in charge, I can at least look forward to Evangelicals sounding like conservative anti-statists again.

Michelle Branch, “Goodby to you” acoustic

Despite the video and the categories to go with, I’m only posting this for the song itself. I really liked it. I looked for it but found only a much less acoustic version. This was done for the TV show and nowhere else, I guess.

Warning: this ends to abruptly.

PS. By the way, for those fans out there, isn’t it weird how Branch looks like Ms. Calendar?

Heading out, will post when able and appropriate.

Oops! Content warning: Spike, the blondie in the coat, while he is smoking and feeling sorry for himself in an ally, says he’s free if a female dog dies–except that’s not the word he uses. I try not to let my children here that kind of word, but completely forgot about it when I posted the clip. So, if you have sensitive ears within hearing distance, don’t hit play or else have your finger on the mute button. (Nor do I approve of the word’s use, but I’m not surprise that a soulless demon would use it.)

Forget about Paul; what does this say about Giuliani?

I replay the classic footage:
[kml_flashembed movie="http://youtube.com/v/AD7dnFDdwu0" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]

I’ve been waiting for my favorite new political blog to mention this, but I guess I will have to do this myself. Other than youtube.com, does Ron Paul have any greater campaigner and promoter that Rudy Giuliani? Giuliani actually heard what Ron Paul said and decided to demonstrate what sort of uber-“patriotic” grandstanding Paul is standing against.

Could not he simply have said, “While we always need to be careful about what we do, I think Mr. Paul’s description of American policy is way to simplistic. In any case, it doesn’t matter. We have been attacked and we have become responsible for Iraq and while many understandably regret this, it is still irresponsible to act like we can simply ignore it and revert to a policy that may or may not have worked at different times.”

If he had said that or something like it in a dismissive but non-rancorous tone, he would have cut Paul off at the knees in terms of public debating. If he had said nothing at all, he would have still prevented a huge swell of interest in Paul.

(In fact, I wonder if the Ron Paul campaign paid off the Republicans who tried to bar him from future debates.  What else could possibly explain such behavior guaranteed to garner both coverage and sympathy for Paul?)

What I’m trying to say is that Giuliani’s behavior shows an amazing lack of judgment due to a misreading of the American people or a desire to grandstand.  He could be right in policy (which isn’t remotely the case, but save that for others to argue) and still this should mean that he has real problems in leadership.

Well, since I’m posting video, I must do more.  Tucker Carlson is so much better than anyone at Foxnews, in my opinion, so here is a double treat.

Oh, and who can be surprised at this reaction on the part of Giuliani:

More bad writing in L O S T

Charlie’s death was as bad as the gun-stealing incident from last season.

  1. Duh. Shut the door with yourself on the other side.
  2. How did the water rise to the ceiling in an airtight compartment? Charlie should have had a viable bubble with some oxygen.
  3. If the door was left open, it would have only allowed water as high as the doorway at most. They would have had had plent of time to get gear and dive.

Don’t writers vet scenes to make sure they are not totally stupid? All the “mood music” seemed like a mockery because these thoughts kept racing through my brain during Charlie’s “sacrifice.”

Hearkening back to the days when this blog had a pop-culture-tv reference as a title

For some inexplicable reason, it never occurred to me to look on YouTube for Buffy clips.

This is especially relevant for season six, which was way over the top, fundamentally inexplicable, and probably the reason SMG decided to leave the show–and thus the last season I am interested in owning.  Thus, it is great to be able, when I’m jonesing for the musical, to be able to watch the first song, or the final showdown, or Sweet’s song, or Spikes song.

Not a bad thing (with the usual many caveats related to television).
