Another approach to the character/politician issue

More on this.

According to the Apostle John, “If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.”

OK, no one who says “If anyone says, ‘I will serve the American people,’ and abandons his wife; he is a liar; for he who does not love his wife whom he has seen cannot love the American people–an abstraction that no one has ever seen.”

Or to put it another way: One cannot expect a person to be more faithful to a concept than he would be to a real person.
