    Mark,

Having been an officer in the Marine Corps, I suspect that Ron Paul’s support from military personal comes primarily from the fact that he believes in the Constitution (more so, even, than that he is against the War in Iraq). It is easy to forget that the primary oath that military officers take is to defend the Constitution … and unlike recent Presidents, most military people actually take this oath seriously.

So Ron Paul says (I’m assuming) the war is unconstitutional.

Paul has support from active duty military.

Active duty military are sworn to defend the constitution.

Why are they obeying unconstitutional orders?

    Pduggie,

I don’t believe that many people in the military believe that the war is unconstitutional. None of my classmates from the Naval Academy that I’ve spoken with have told me that they believe the war is unconstitutional (BTW – While I thought the war was/is an astonishingly unwise use of power, I don’t believe it is unconstitutional).

I certainly would not have followed orders that I believed were unconstitutional.

I am simply suggesting that military officers (officers tend to be the ones who give cash to campaigns – which was the subject of the link) respect people who value the constitution.
