    I think the article is quite good and mostly right. The prime evidence he sites is how Darwin is going nowhere and the fact that Apple just hasn’t contributed anything. We are seeing this more and more. Developers know who is helping out and who is not.

    One might offer Safari as an example of something positive. But as far as I know, it is just another example of Apple taking freely and not giving anything back. Safari is just a version of KDE Konqueror adapted to work on the Mac. I don’t think any code was returned that was needed or that development was helped in any way by Apple’s use of it.

    What he doesn’t mention is something I am suspicious of. Remember when Steve Jobs came
    back to Apple and Microsoft bailed them out by offering Mac support for Office as well as infusing some cash I believe? I think Jobs wants to support Micro$oft in a way to show good faith to them for helping in the past. If they decided to use Linux instead of BSD (which they easily could), it would just accelerate interest in Linux and create more competition for Micro$oft.
