Ugh. That happened to me once. Now I keep a copy of my blog HTML on Google Docs (to be able to access it from any computer) and in a Word Doc. My condolences for your loss.
All the templates I’ve ever coded I’ve done in Notepad and tested out on my computer to see how they render prior to going “live.” Among other benefits, one always has a back-up copy.
