“Jewish expectation in the second temple period was fairly well laid out like an elaborate Etch-A-Sketch drawing. Paul, following the lead of Jesus, comes in and shakes up the picture.” Evangelical and Reformed expectation in the 20th-21st centuries was fairly well laid out like an elaborate Etch-A-Sketch drawing. The NPP, following the lead of the NT itself, comes in and shakes up the...

I haven’t read this commentary, so can’t comment on it directly. However, this review has certainly whetted my appetite for more of NTW’s work. What I would ask here is whether some of the weaknesses in this commentary (e.g., his bypassing the discussion of predestination in Rom 9-11) may be editorial rather than authorial. Maybe Fortress Press and SPCK are more open to these topics than Abingdon’s...

In response to DJay, your father-in-law is not saved by the Spirit even though he can quote the Bible and says he is. He doesn’t exhibit the fruit of the Spirit as you said, and is not working on improving and changing himself over time. He is sadly decieved. Galatians 5:22-23 Paul writes: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,...

Are there not consequences to a Christian’s sin/disobedience that may take restoring something that was not ones to take in the first place. Even though God has forgiven someone for their sin does that person still not have to do the work of obedience and return what was not theirs to take.

You say that salvation is difficult. On one hand, one must do more difficult things than non-Christians. But on the other hand, the help of the Holy Spirit which a non-Christian does not get makes it easier and Christ says, “Take my yoke, it is light”. So how do you believe it is? That the requirements outweigh the strength that the Holy Spririt gives and makes Christianity HARDER over all or...

Wow, Mr. Charlie J. Ray, I can tell that you have never read any of Wright’s works nor understand where he is coming from. You do not appear to understand the present article either. You do the man such a serious injustice as to be truly slanderous in regard to almost everything that you have said. You make Wright out to be a monster out of thin air, out of your own imagination. There is no...

I have a question. For years My father in law sexually and emotionally abused his daughters. and mentally abused his wife. She became his doormat and answered only to his needs and the children came last. His daughters feel in spite of everything he is still their father and do what must be done for him.the visits to his home causes anxiety and they often become ill after or during the visit. He is extremely bitter towards his...

can some one explain to me Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, then, is not to be explained in terms of some difference in being or eternal status between the Son and the Holy Spirit so that curse words involving Jesus’ name are forgivable, but not expletives involving the Spirit. Rather, it refers to the historical framework of Jesus’ work in his own generation. The rejection of Jesus, as serious as that is,...

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is attributing the work of the Holy Spirit to the devil. The pharisees said that He (Christ) had an unclean spirit. The stated that he casts out devils by the prince of devils, beelzebub. This is what Christ calls blasphemy of the Holy Spirit plain and simple. The texts are these Matthew 12:22-37 (KJV) Mt 12:22 (KJV) Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and...

Hi, Dito Lincoln- I still wonder because I went through the same attack at 14. I still want to follow God but I am not sure that what I am doing is really genuine. Meaning, do I really have a heart to obey the Lord? The reason I say this is because I made an even bigger mistake. I was prompted with an urge by the Holy Spirit to confront someone who had wronged me. Well I was afraid and I had a history of...
