- July 15, 2008 at 1:29 pm :: Does the New Covenant have its own distinctive sanctions as well as blessings? We affirm :: Jeremiah
“Does the New Covenant have its own distinctive sanctions as well as blessings?” No. To say that the Bible says this shows a lack of understanding about the relationship between the old and new covenants The New Covenant is the “Old Covenant” completed and fulfilled by Christ. Both are one and the same, except one is unfulfilled and the other...
- July 2, 2008 at 9:53 am :: Why Baptize Babies? :: Aaron Randall
Hi Mark, I too have devoted a considerable amount of time on proving the efficacy of Infant Baptism. I just revisited the Rich Lusk article - BAPTISMAL EFFICACY AND THE REFORMED TRADITION: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE and would like to offer my critique of the same for review and comment. I have come to recognize a Covenant deficiency within the Reformed theology that has caused considerable confusion in their academic circles....
- June 30, 2008 at 9:02 am :: Are Wright’s Critics Misreading Him? :: CJD
I read this back in 2003 and was reminded of it again when I read Paul Helm’s interesting analysis on the supposed similarities between Baxter’s neo-nomianism and Wright’s exegesis. I responded here. You were spot on about this specific topic then, and you still are.

Great quiz. But hey, while I’m here, I just can’t help myself … Yes, like other reformed commentators above, I, too, am a compulsive proofreader/editor/corrector/n itpicker, so … In question F, answer 3, I suggest you either drop the “’s” from “N. T. Wright’s” or add “the sins of” to the question. Grace & peace, AKH
- June 11, 2008 at 10:28 pm :: Did Jesus Preach Gospel or Law to the Rich Young Ruler? :: B. Busskohl
The key to understanding Christ speaking to the Rich Young Ruler is in Romans 3:20 “for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” If you were to walk down the street and ask anyone if they thought they were a good person, most likely they would respond yes. Just as the rich man responded when Christ said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is,...

Your website was so helpful it had given me some clarrifications with the things I’m dealing with at present. But I still want deeper explanations so if you could help and someone could give me more assurance about salvation. Thanks a lot and hope to hear from you soon. Godbless
- June 1, 2008 at 11:20 am :: Does the New Covenant have its own distinctive sanctions as well as blessings? We affirm :: Jim Hagan
Just did a paper on Malachi 4:4-6. Another scripture within the context of the covenant that bears the truth of this is Romans 11:22: “Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.”

- May 20, 2008 at 1:11 pm :: Vine, Branches, & Fruit :: stuart
Thanks for you notes on John 15. I have read somewhere, and i cannot think where, that the branches of the vine are only fit for bearing fruit. They are good for nothing else only that. Even the branches that are fruitless, those cast into the fire, don’t even make a good fire, because they just smoulder and smoke. Would you like to comment?
- April 25, 2008 at 7:09 am :: Formal Corporate Prayer :: Kevin Koop
Dear Brother, I want to thank you for this well thought out paper. I am a pastor in the Assemblies of God. As much as I love the spontaneous leading of the Spirit, I am often troubled by the immature prayer of people who have “known the Lord” for many years. I will be spending time studying this out further and seeking to incorporate these ideas into our discipleship program. Thanks again. Kevin Koop Senior...
- April 22, 2008 at 8:48 pm :: What Is Meant by the Spiritual Presence of Christ in the Lords Supper :: william campbell
All my life i understood that the Lord’s Supper was symbolic.To be truthful I never took communion in the Methodist church that i was raised in, because i knew that i was not born again and thus would not eat and drink the elements worthily. Years later,when i was born again in a Pentecostal church, i still assumed that the elements were largley symbolic as this made...
- April 15, 2008 at 6:34 am :: A Short Note on N. T. Wright & His Reformed Critics :: Andrew Yeoman
thanks for the article. The ‘in Christ’ theme has certainly been something I have been thinking alot about of late, especially in relation to salvation being our intiation into Him, and His people / body. My only question is regarding Wright’s approach to imputed righteousness, as I have read that he doesn’t believe it is God’s or Christ’s righteouness...
- April 14, 2008 at 10:33 am :: Strive to Enter in at the Strait Gate :: Harold R. Green Jr.
This is an excellent view of this portion of scripture. We are flesh and the works of the flesh are so contrary to the work of the Spirit. We are too use to the flesh and it’s coniving, scheming, cleverness that when faced with our sin and salvation many recoil and fight the Spirit. It is a difficult thing to abandon what we have relied on for so long as our hope (human, dead works) and repent...

- April 10, 2008 at 3:34 pm :: A Short Note on N. T. Wright & His Reformed Critics :: Louis Wislocki
Thank you for your essay on N.T. Wright’s interpretation of Pauline Justification. It helped me not only to understand Wright but to get a grasped of the justification controversy withing the Reformed community. Reformed theologians tend to have knee-jerk reaction to anything that remotely questions 16th and 17th century reformed formulations. I hope your essay enjoys a wide...
- April 6, 2008 at 6:22 am :: God’s Promises to the Jews :: Daniel
A very good word! I especially liked how you make it so clear that all the promises made to Israel and Judah are fulfilled in Christ and only through union with Him does anyone share in those promises.

- March 28, 2008 at 4:09 am :: Future Justification to the Doers of the Law :: Jim
The doers of the law in Romans are saved, New Covenant (the Spirit) people, who do the law (its morality) by the enablement of the indwelling Spirit of God. The other people in view are unsaved, Old Covenant (the letter) people, who cannot do the law (its morality), though they have outward circumcision and they have the law (the letter) and do its outward rituals. In Romans 2, Paul contrasts the saved (New...
