Blade TV

iTunes (Can I capitalize a sentence if iTunes is the first word? Does the Chicago Manual of Style address this?) gave (may still be giving) a free download of the Blade TV pilot. Despite being on a network I pretty much sneer at, and having no experience with the comic book whatsoever, the movies piqued my interest in what the TV series would be like. I have other reruns to watch, but I haven’t had time lately. So this was the first show I’ve seen in awhile, other than the “dates” I have with my wife in our den watching shows we are both interested in.

Anyway, I didn’t have time to finish Blade the other night and, when I stopped it, I told Jennifer that I probably would never watch another one. For one thing, the violence is rather graphic and, while I could stomach that in a occasional movie, weekly fare seems too much. If that continues apace then it may indeed kill the show for me. But I also simply didn’t find the show interesting. The plot was predictable and the guy playing Blade looked like someone whom Wesly Snipes could break in two with one hand.

Well, I saw the last twenty minutes of the show later and the plot both turned out to contain a real surprise and introduced a genuinely interesting character in a strange and different situation. So I’m planning to watch it again. But, to my mind, the series should be entitled “Krista.” She ended up being the real protagonist.
