What Jesus really meant to say

“My mother and my brethren are these which hear the the good news of the imputed righteousness of Christ received by faith alone, and believe it.” Luke 8:21.

    It occurred to me today that some people define the word “gospel” (and consequently limit any usage of the words “good news”) exclusively to mean “the information necessary to move a person from a state of not being justified to the state of being justified upon accepting the truth of that information.” The “gospel” is only concerned with justification, not with anything else that Christ wishes to communicate to us, and the words “good news” can never be used to mean anything else, either.

    And that’s really pretty sad.

    And more specifically, to use those words in any other way is to communicate false information about how justification occurs, and therefore render justification impossible for the person who accepts your usage.

    {snark} You can see that kind of thing being a primary concern of the apostles. {/snark}

    No, sorry, it’s just that the two things I’ve responded to lately on your site have pushed my buttons. I’ll try to dig the unsnarky one back up. 🙂
