Driving down to Louisiana

We started listening to the first book in Harry Turtledove’s Atlantis books.  So far they are fantastic!

I started some Turtledove a while back but was put off by the frequent, poorly written, and pretty much gratuitous sex scenes. (IOW, a bad thing done badly.) Are they not all like that?

This isn’t yet bad. So far I’ve let my kids listen with me. But now I’m going to be extra careful…

I remember Guns of the South being ok, but maybe I’m blocking out.

Maybe I’ll check out Guns of the South, then. The one I read was the first one in the series having something to do with Nazis, I think. I didn’t get very far.

It wasn’t particularly bad as a lot of modern writing goes, but it was irritating enough that it turned me off. It just seemed like he was throwing the stuff in there to meet some kind of quota so it would be an adult-oriented book, and wasn’t even good at it. Maybe he learned his lesson?

I do have to say that once I ran across a book he wrote that was aimed at kids, and really enjoyed it, but it was definitely more juvenile.
