Promoting blight for the sake of “redevelopment”

More anger–about my present home state.

When you think about it, the whole “eminent domain” scheme helps big companies in more than one way.

Obviously, getting the government to take other peoples’ property for your benefit (because you’ll pay more taxes or whatever) is a great benefit.

But the other benefit is that, as you keep exercising your right to take from others, people will learn that there is no point investing in small local businesses. The “blight” will grow greater and reduce your competition to only a few other multi-national corporations. The only ladder upward will be by serving masters in that system, and finding a place in any projects they want to start with their advanced leverage.

Notice that the article points out that low-income housing never appeared. But what if the company had kept their word? Does building low-income housing mean it is alright to take low-income businesses? Why not let the business owners find their own housing and stay in the business they started?

Don’t let the welfare spending or graduated income tax distract you from the way things work–that we still take from the poor to give to the rich.

Do you object to eminent domain itself, or to the recent court case defining “public use” to include transfer of private property to other private owners if those other owners are part of a plan that ostensibly will promote the public interest?
