Calvin’s invisible church, again

When in the Creed we profess to believe the Church, reference is made not only to the visible Church of which we are now treating, but also to all the elect of God, including in the number even those who have departed this life.

Again, Calvin doesn’t seem to have in mind present unregenerates who will be predestined to repent in the future, or those who do not yet exist at all.

Calvin may have had such people in mind when he refers to the “elect,” but his words line up the invisible church more naturally with the regenerate, rather than simply equating it with those throughout history who are decreed to inherit eternal life.
