John Bunyan is used to prove what?

I’m no scholar in “Particular Baptist” history, but I’m finding some second-hand evidence that Bunyan believed that justification preceded faith.  This would be a denial of orthodox doctrine.

So I want to know two things.  1. Is this true?  and 2. If so, was John Bunyan disclaiming the need for good works when he spoke of his heart’s frame, or was he repudiating justifying faith?
