I’m sort of rethinking the whole social network thing these days. There is nothing on my Facebook profile that isn’t easily discovered on my blog, but what Facebook is doing with that data is sort of creepy.
I guess I’m not particularly creeped out by this. This kind of thing goes on all the time with marketing on TV, magazines, radio, etc., or anytime you use your credit or ATM card for a purchase or have to give your zip code.
I’ve run a couple of facebook ads and, from what I can tell, facebook uses information to target ad audience, but advertisers only get a record of numbers of click-thrus without being able to connect those click-thrus to any particular persons.
