He does, and it’s not just the style of music — there is something so moving and so real about the way Cash shows forth the gospel in his later work, even when it isn’t overt, that I think he has a lot of appeal to people who wouldn’t normally like his style. These days, I’m not surprised to find out anybody is a Johnny Cash fan unless they’re a dedicated Emo or something. Either the music or the message or simply the sense of how “real” the guy was is going to resonate with almost any sort of person.
I was not expecting that voice out of that kid.
