Sorry, have to disagree with you on this one. Going back, grabbing your friend, and assaulting some guy isn’t right, even if they were coming on to you.
My own guess is that Carlson was just talking big – can you really imagine their going back and beating a guy up? They probably giggled about it and then kept flipping through the used record bin looking for flock of seagulls.
I think Evan’s point is that, guy or girl, you get out of the situation. If either has to get rough to get out of the situation, that’s one thing. But going back with a third person and beating someone up after you’ve extricated yourself? Nah, that doesn’t seem right. However, I don’t think that’s quite Media Matters’ position — it sounds like MM is saying, “Oh, people should NEVER hurt one another.” So they’re on the opposite extreme end, whereas IMO the appropriate response should be, “Use the amount of force necessary to shut things down, but not a gratuitous amount.”
