I recently read someone describe a man as “godly” but “not a theologian.”
Isn’t it high time we deconstructed this word? What more does it mean more than someone who likes to talk a lot about what theologians talk about? If a man is a godly Christian but doesn’t spend a great deal of his time jabbering about the Bible or (more often) other dead jabbering Christians, then he is not a theologian.
The true definition of “theologian” is closer to “blogger” than many of us want to admit.
And this is why I’ve always felt that I needed constant reminders of the East’s characteristic definition: The theologian is one who knows how to pray.
OK, if we agree that a blogger is about knowing and being known then we are very close to a theologian as one who knows God the theos in the Father , Son and Holy Spirit. God is a blogger so, weblog with him.
