Previews that intrigue me

I probably won’t see these until they come out on DVD, but they look interesting. (Note: I got these from apple trailers. The aspect ratio will be off unless you have a pretty wide screen–and it may still not be right even then. Go to the Apple trailers page to see a better picture.)

I hope this movie succeeds in dealing with a distinctively modern situation.

This one is probably going to be unredeemable. I’ll keep my eyes on the reviews. However, I have to say that the trailer is poignant and, if I thought it was representative, I would see it:

I tried to use the smallest preview to make this fit better. It looks like it could be amazing. I hope they don’t blow it for political reasons.

This looks hysterical but the R rating probably represents enough gratuitous stuff that I won’t see it. (I also notice that the anarchy code fixes a different aspect ratio and there’s nothing I can do about it.)

Ok, the normal trailer is missing so here’s a hi-def view. Let’s see if it works. If this proves suitable I’m thinking about taking Evangeline to it as a special father-daughter treat. We’ll see… May not be age appropriate; depends on the amount of consumer propaganda and the boy-girl stuff which is obviously a disney marketing ploy.

You’ve got the trailer for The Savages posted twice. What was the second one supposed to be? I’ve heard really good things about The Savages though. And The Kingdom looks really good (granted, I have a pro-Jennifer Garner bias), but it’s been shelved for several months, which isn’t usually a good sign… I want to be excited to see Nancy Drew, but they’re just taking it way too cutesy. Nancy’s older and more mature than this in the books (I know, I know, I’m trying not to be a purist, but I grew up on them!).

Oops. “Knocked Up” was the movie. It is the same guy who did a movie I absolutely refuse to see, so, like I said, probably unredeemable.

But I still thought the preview looked promising.

Also, I just poked around the Anarchy player a bit (I hardly ever use it), and you can set aspect ratios by file type in the Options>Anarchy menu. Now, that’s only really useful if all the Quicktime files you’re going to post are the same aspect ratio, but at least it’s something. I’m not a fan of not having control over the code…even when I don’t know what I’m doing half the time…

Oh, and you’re right about Nancy Drew. Looks like Harriet the Spy by way of Pleasantville. Look for revised books too–but they’re probably already out (and of course, I’d love it if I could land a ghostwriting contract and further debauch the series).

I showed my kids a dvd of three episodes from the TV show of the seventies and they really liked them.

I was just reading about the Nancy Drew series on Wikipedia (because I’d forgotten whether she was 16 or 18 in the books–I just remember that she could drive), and was interested to find that the books were re-edited once already to make her older…hence my age confusion, I suppose, although I probably would’ve been reading the edited ones. And now they’re making her younger again. Speaks to the power of the pre-teen audience these days, I guess. *sigh*

Ah, I want to see Knocked Up really badly, because the writing sounds amazing, though I agree with you, it’s likely to be highly inappropriate (like Apatow’s other film which you have elected to leave nameless, and which I have not seen either). But I’ll probably wait for the DVD. It’s been getting amazing reviews, too, especially for a romantic comedy.
