The ammount to which we were a command economy in WWII for necessity still suprises me from time to time. Dorothy Sayers I think has an essay on how war need kinda challenged the economic theory of price=utility. Tanks weren’t bought and sold in a marketplace where the market improved them, but were produced in a system of total war.
