Crimson Dark

Kari

Back when I was a single college graduate I would buy comic books every week, following the best series (Legends of the Dark Knight had just begun; I don’t know if it is still running) and buying occasional new stuff. Getting married and working with a budget ended that. But lately I’ve noticed that people will provide product free on the web. Of course, you have to be careful on the web, and I’m hoping this one remmains PG–so my recommendation is provisional. But I’ve enjoyed both reading and following Crimson Dark. It makes me feel like Firefly is still running (though CD is more military than western so far, but that may change).

So, if you are interested in comic books, I think you should check it out. And if you’re not, maybe you should check it out anyway. You might be surprised at how much you like the medium. In my opinion it is better than both print and movies.

Mark, thanks for the link, it looks interesting!

You could email and ask him what his intentions are with respect to “rating”. My experience is that folks who are starting off little projects like this are very grateful to receive personal notes of appreciation and are happy to answer questions.

Thanks for the plug Mark, I really appreciate it!

It is not my current intention to change the rating of Crimson Dark, but my focus is entirely upon the character and the stories. I can’t promise that things won’t change, because they always do, but I’m firmly opposed to gratuitous violence/sex/language.

But blood/gore is a tricky issue – it is set during a war after all, and I firmly believe in being honest about the ugliness and brutality of violence.

Anyway, thanks for the positive comments, I’m both delighted and humbled when I learn that people are reading CD. For curiosity’s sake, how did you find it?

David, your work is really good. I wish someone would back you so you could put out a monthly publication. (Of course, I haven’t opened a comic book in forever, so I would never know about you if your were successful in that way!).

I’m trying to remember how I got hold of you. One possibility is that I found you through the top100 comics site, but I doubt it. I found you too near the beginning of your story for that to be likely. Probably I found some blogger who linked you and then found the top100 site through you. My memory is foggy. I’m pretty sure I was first linked to you after the prologue was done but before you had posted anything else. In any case, I have looked in vane so far for anything of comparable quality (not that I really need to be following too many of these things, but with updates only two days a week I can easily start jonesing for another panel to read.)

    Keep up the great work!

Hey, I’m no comic book reader, but I’m really enjoyng this. I have to ask though. Do you think the reference to “Espenson Station” on 1.19 is a nod to Jane Espenson the writer and colaborator with Joss Whedon?
