This is all fairly unfortunate. As someone who currently attends RTS Jackson and attends the only CREC church in the state the rhetoric is becoming nauseating, and now offensive. 400 pages…give me a break.

Maybe Waters didn’t interact with you because of 2 very good reasons: 1. There is a ton of stuff you have already written that is available, and as we know, printed matter is a much more scholarly basis than personal interaction; and 2. Discussions between FV and non-FV people can sometimes lead to more heat than light, as you and I have experienced. Waters is a very unassuming person, and very cautious in person. waters seems to have done his homework.

Lane, I’ll go back and check our correspondance but I’m pretty sure he only invoked the privilage of P&R privacy policy, even while his material was distributed to others.

Mark, I’m not sure you see it, because you are so personally close to the FV controversy, but when you use this blog to snipe at various targets, I don’t see the evidence that you have contacted them ahead of time to maintain the same quality control that you demand of Dr. Waters? It just appears on the surface that you hold Dr. Waters to one standard and have another for the targets that you go after on this blog. Perhaps you do contact all of the elders ahead of time whose material you write against on this blog to make sure that you have understood them properly and if so, I apologize for thinking differently.

I’m sorry. Have I declared Dr. Waters to hold “aberrant” theology on my blog or anywhere else? Have I not reported that I did indeed contact him?

Your characterization of my attempt to control the horrendous damage of this book to myself and others as “sniping,” sort of reminds me of Augustine’s story of Alexander and the pirate.

Or maybe of Paul before the Sanhedran

However, I’ve notice before that this sort of direction makes for unpleasant reading. So I’ll cool it. But I don’t think I’m holding anyone to a double standard.

OK, on second thought, even if I don’t agree with your point about a double standard, I still think the post was far too emotional. Sorry you had to read it. Sorry I wrote it that way. I stripped out just about everything emotional.
