It is reported that a cabal of Russian Orthodox priests (in the motherland; not here) got together and officially delivered the soul of Alexander Schmemann to eternal damnation. Since Schmemann was already dead, I’m not sure if this qualifies as an excommunication or a seance.

But I digress.

I’m wondering now if we might soon see a similar action from a different ecclesiastical quarter sucking the soul of Jonathan Edwards down into Hell.

PS. I suppose I should add that I don’t at all mind people disagreeing with Edwards. But the ongoing revisionist critique is one piece of evidence that the claim that there are “new views” threatening the doctrine of justification within the Reformed World is simply contrary to the facts as admitted by the people making the accusations. Shepherd is continually attacked for either a novel view of justification, or for a doctrine that comes from the alien territory of non-reformed theology. But, in fact, Shepherd’s theology has plenty of precedent–indeed these precedents were substantively involved in Shepherd’s own theological growth.
