H T M L & template changes

Yes, I’m reading the html book (see the far column at the time of this writing), but most of what I have read is basic text- and pic-level stuff that I already knew. The book saves the overall design stuff for last, which is why what you see is really a bunch of hacking and experiementing with the template of someone who actually knew what he was doing. I have no idea yet how to really operate CSS, but hopefully I will soon.

Anyway, I think the white background makes things look less crowded.

the white background definitely makes it easier to read. thank u.

when arrive on your blog i’m not sure where I’m suppose to look first… the blogtitle, your book, the google-ads, your latest blogpost….

Generally speaking, black text on white is easiest to read. For some reason, the white here seems exceptionally bright – maybe it’s just my laptop. You might want to experiment with a very light shade of off-white for the background, just to see if it softens things up a bit.

It is a bit bright but it might just be because we are all used to coming to a black blog (i. e. it’s all in your head).

My only complaint is too much advertising.

Oh, and clearly we must educate you on the ways of the great Borg of Redmond. The EU did what the US should have done. Smacked ’em down good!

I will dare to add my comments too.

I do like it better, esp that the sidebar is in the correct place now. A few thoughts.
    1. I can accept the Amazon adverts, but do you really make any money from the Google ads? Especially when they are so often for stuff people visiting your site probably wouldn’t be interested in (this visit: University of London courses, and the writings of George Fox). Plus it is really very damaging to the design.
    2. On bloglines and the title bar of my browser the italics tags always show, and don’t actually italise (is that a word?). If you got rid of them in your blog title in blogger, and then replaced the automatic imput of the blogger title to your heading in the blogger template, you could still have the same format header if you did it manually.
    3. Final thing. I like the white, but it would be a little less oppressive if you had a splash of colour. For example in the header, or the titles of each post.

Posts on template changes always get comments – guaranteed.

Yeah I’m getting tired of seeing the “em” brackets in the top bar of my browser. I’ll be too busy to do it tonight. I’m also going to move the google ads somewhat lower.

But Dave. I have almost $70 waiting for me now. I don’t get a check until it reaches $100. Not to sound needy, but I can’t afford to get rid of that entirely.

Really, $70! Maybe I should get my blogging going again – and go a lot more populist too.

I am genuinely surprised they pay that well.
