So, at download.com I do something that triggers the presentation of a link to some great freebie tools for the Mac. I already have most of them, but quicksilver catches my eye. Quicksilver allows you to start typing the name of a program and just hit return. Also, you can bring up quicksilver by a command-button combination.

I download it and it works great. I pretty much have nothing left in my dock. I only use it now to switch between open programs (though I suspect I will start using the expose f9 button more often even for that).

But then it occurs to me: Why am I running an extra program? Spotlight, the search feature of the Tiger OS does almost the same thing. What’s more, Spotlight can also be summoned by a command-key comnination. So now I have deleted Quicksilver.

Everyone loves the window point and click method, but I think it will eventually become a secondary means of getting files. Typing is quicker, at least on laptops with touchpads.
