Egypt (The Chains Are On
In the land of the lost horizon
Where the queen lies dark and cold
When the stars won’t shine, then the story’s toldWhen the world was milk and honey
And the magic was strong and true
Then the strange ones came and the people knewThat the chains are on
In the land of no tomorrow
Where you pray just to end each day
And your life just slowly melts awayEach day you hear the sand as it moves and whispers
Come and sail on my golden sea
Maybe one day you’ll be just like me…and that’s freeBut still your chains are on
You’ve seen them walking on the water
You’ve seen flying through the sky
They were frightening in the darkness
They had rainbows in their eyesWhen the world was milk and honey
And the magic was strong and true
The the strange ones came and the people knewThat the chains are on
I have, until today, misunderstood what the sand was whispering. I thought it was the Phaoronic temptation to Moses: “Come and sit on my golden seat. Maybe one day you’ll be just like me.” Slavery can breed an ambition to become a master. Better off dying in chains than live to become one who locks them on others.
Wow, I have not heard that song in years. Have you ever heard the two songs he sang with Kerry Livgren ?
They are on the “Seeds Of Change” album, titled:
Mask Of The Great Deceiver
To Live For The King
Used to have the Livgren LP just for those tracks. Chains may be the best thing RJD gave us outside the Heaven and Hell era. Randomly keyworded your blog for Dio..very glad I did.
Interesting coincidence – I posted a review of Holy Diver at ADDReviews just last night.

My copy of The Last In Line vanished years ago. I should replace it.
