Jeff’s entry caused me to revisit the issue of this timeline. I think something should be added at either 6.5 or 7.5:
At least by December 13, 2004, though perhaps from November 23 (or earlier?), those in control of the website of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS elected to publicly declare the theology of TEs Peter Leithart, Steve Wilkins, and Mark Horne to be aberrant. At this time, no presbytery anywhere in the PCA had made any finding about thse men. Additionally, their presbyteries were never notified of these charges, and they were never contacted, accused, or given any opportunity to speak in their defense against these public verdicts.
I suppose some might claim that ‘aberrant’, though clearly perjorative, is possibly to be taken in some limited dictionary sense as “differing substantially from the usual or natural type”.
Right, but in a confessional church as a confessing churchman there is no way to take it so loosely.
What’s the problem here? You don’t like the theology and practice of our peculiar southern institutions?
