In the PCA we don’t believe that God commanded a particular order of service.
What does that mean in practice?
It means that in the PCA, churches have liberty to order their services in many different ways and receive full respect from others in the denomination. We have the freedom to use written prayers or pray extemporaneously. We have the freedom to decide how often we celebrate the Lord’s supper. We each have the freedom to decide what themes will be central to a given day of worship and/or what sermon text the pastor will preach upon. We have the freedom to read portions of Scripture.
We have all this great freedom, huge, vast, OCEANS of freedom…
so long as the worship order doesn’t seem too Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran, Anglican, or even in some cases Continental Reformed. We must all be vigilant to guard against these appearances because we believe that Christ died to give us freedom.
Yep. It is all about freedom.
