Is sex between a husband and wife a symbol of their love, or an act of love? Are they reminding one another of their love, or are they loving each other? The Bible actually leads us to make this comparison in thinking about the Lord’s Supper.

God can make stones into bread. He could also make stones as nourishing as bread. Or he could nourish us while we eat stones that have no power to nourish on their own, and eating the stones is just an “occasion” for God to nourish us.
Btu then, maybe eating bread doesn’t actually nourish us, and eating bread is the just the “occasion” God uses to nourish us.
I think, though God actually nourishes us using bread as an instrument. And 99% of the time, if he wanted to miraculously feed us, he’d make stones into bread, not allow stones to remain stones and still nourish us.
