If you read the Westminster standards, assurance is a difficult accomplishment that usually requires diligence over time. If you sit under commonplace PCA preaching and teaching, assurance is simply an automatic effect of faith.

Oddly, the difference is never noted. It is studiously ignored. Maybe back when John Gerstner was alive people would sometimes experience the tension, but our giants are long dead.
