On deviance and conformity

When I was in seminary I would sometimes asking classmates nearing graduation if they had written out, yet, their exceptions to the Westminster Standards.  Well, no, they didn’t have any.  This was confusing because, last I heard from them, they indeed did have exceptions.  Well, it turned out, in conference with a helpful pastor or professor, they discovered that their exceptions were not really exceptions at all.  So all was well with the world.

I wasn’t really happy with this but I figured I shouldn’t do anything about it.  I’d wish my classmates well and let it go.  So I would stand out a little more.  So be it.  I’d still get in, I was confident, as a committed and faithful Presbyterian.

What was the harm?
