So now she’s a specialist in generosity?

She also served from 1997 to 2001 as volunteer president of the New London Development Corporation, dedicated to building the tax base, creating jobs and improving the quality of life for all citizens of New London,CT. During her tenure, NLDC managed $75 million in state infrastructure funding and attracted $300 million in private investment to New London, bringing 2100 new jobs to the city.

I know someone who might have a different view of this period in Claire Gaudiani’s life:

YouTube – Susette Kelo Tells Her Story at the Cato Institute.

The husband’s name is David Burnett, if you care to google him.

When I heard about the Kelo case I interpreted as state v. property-owner. But the truth is more grotesque. It is a story that cries out for intervention from Benjamin Richards. It is a classic case of rich lords and poor serfs. It was the lead up to the TARP bailout.

Great idea that I would love to see actually put into practice

N. T. Wright has really helped me see how the Christian life in Paul’s letters is all about “theology proper.” Who God is means something essential about who we are.

This was a great video. My only worry is that it is used to vindicate some rather dry and lifeless stuff–it can be used in a kind of bait and switch. You see this great video and it motivates you to go to a church or attend a class that trains you to be a first class Pharisee.  A vision of life pulls you into a community of arrogance and self-exalting slogans that you are proud to own because others don’t.

That’s not the video’s fault; just something I’ve grown to be worried about.

“Life’s not fair” is too diffuse a lesson to learn from this

Listen to what the parents told their abused daughter to deal with it.  “Life’s not fair?”  No.  The state is not fair.  Professional bureaucrats are sociopaths. Politicians are insane and dangerous. Those are the lessons of this story.

But nooooo; this is all just a great exception.  Normally, the state and federal employees who we want to invade other countries, build our cars, control our economy, and play doctor with us are all brilliant, eternally beneficient angels, with only a few weird exceptions.

Did the parents even consider teaching their daughter another lesson by pulling her out of that prison? (I have no idea what their circumstances are which is why I’m only asking if they considered it)
