Gary Gygax died today

For the 2% of blog readers who don’t know, he was the co-creator of D&DDungeons & Dragons.

Geeks from the eighties everywhere bow their heads in grief.

If not for his contributions, video games and geek culture would probably look much different than it does today. Beyond jokes about “d20s” and “saving throws,” D&D‘s systems and mythos have spawned many excellent games, including Baldur’s Gate and Planescape: Torment.

That’s from Cnet. I notice that a lot of online writers and tech bloggers seem to have some affection for the man. There’s a lesson to be learned here about career preparation and the educational system….

  1. St. Melito of Sardis, I guess

I was just watching Freaks and Geeks th other day and this guy was reading the Monster Manual. Huh. So would Mr. Gygax be the father of modern satanism, seeing as he created that demonic game? Or is that Elvis, for the rock ‘n roll thing….

Saw the John Wright tribute. Nice.

Some commenters were describing Gygax as a Christian. Unfortunately (?) as far as I can tell he was a Jehovah’s Witness. Happy to be corrected.
