Template changes coming

Mrs. Hornesdotorgslashmark has informed me that my template is evil. I realize now I should have snagged a different template before Jandy grabbed it, but now it is too late because nothing is more tacky in blogdom, I think, than taking the template of someone on your blogroll. The problem is that I wanted a white background.

So we’ll see what happens. I suppose, if I were brave, I’d take a template and try to change all the backgrounds, but I have a hard time conceptualizing templates in WordPress… Also, I have no idea if my mysterious font size issues will resurface.

This was easier than I expected. I had tried this one back when I had font-size issues. It didn’t solve my problem. I wish the puke green font color was slightly darker, but other than that I like it.

Now I remember the problem with this template: no link categories. Everything is shoved together.

I think I’m going to repair it manually and keep the template.

    Bear with me.

Well, I should probably just get rid of the subtitle.

In the meantime I went to another template and stole the typical php code–thus fixing the links.

I agree with Mrs. Youknowwho, but I would never have told you so. I like this a lot more, but I don’t see the lists of most recent comments and most recent posts. Can you put them back in, maybe above Archives?

In this template (and the one for the previous couple weeks), on my screen your posts take up 25% of the width, and then links and ads the other 75%.

Seems a little disproportionate (although I do like the picture at the top).

I could threaten to quit reading your blog unless you change it, but I know deep down that even if you had upside down white text on an ivory background, I’d still keep coming back.

Thank you for the compliment David!

Quick question though. On my browsers it is more like 40-20-20-20. My previous one was four equal columns…

Are you sure about what you wrote?

I’d say it’s 30/20/20/20 on my screen too – Firefox 2 on XP. The missing 10% is the margins.

One thing to think about check and see if the template came with an archive page. The column dedicated to archive links is wasted space IMO. On my blog I moved them to a separate page, however the template came with an archive page so it was easy.

I’m sorry I got the good template first. I’ll let you know when I get bored of it and decide to change. 😉 Although, I like it a lot, so…

If you want a darker link color, try 669933 instead of 8ab459 in the stylesheet for a:hover (it’s very near the top, between the two lines of asterisks). And if you want a white background, look right above that and change the background-color for “body” from DDE5D9 to ffffff. But I think the soft green background looks nice.

And the columns are about 30:20:20:20 for me, too. Each of the sidebars could probably go in five to ten pixels and give you space to widen the post column, if you wanted to do that. But I think it’s already more readable than the uniform width was, especially since the content column is on the edge.

This background is light enough. (When I went from a black background to a white one on my blogspot blog it looked to me like I doubled my space.) I might implement link color change soon. Thanks.
