Hugo

The Hugo finalists are announced.  Looking at the categories, it just now hit me that the genre that is probably not the most popular in books quite dominates the movies….

If V for Vendetta wins anything, I will be sure to denounce the Hugo awards here.

I haven’t seen any of the Dr. Who stuff.  Anyone have an opinion to offer?

Naturally, I think BSG should take away an award.

Finally, the only author I’ve read here is Verner Vinge.  Jeff loaned me one of his novels. I will try to read all five of the novels soon to see what I think.

I thought “Children of Men” had a great premise, but terrible execution — it devolved into a chase movie. Ug.

The new Dr. Who. Hmm. In some ways they’re better than the old Dr. Whos, nonetheless, after giving it a try when it first came out, I don’t feel that I have to tune in. I don’t know if it’s the absence of camp or what.

BSG — it keeps me tuning in, barely. The plot moves slowly, the humans are incredibly stupid, and there’s not enough fighting with the cylons.

Plus, there’s the “one big thing” we need to learn (the cylon “why”), then the show’s over. Sometimes I can hardly stand to watch it.

I added most of the Hugo novel list to my Zooba reading list. I’ll be getting Hugo nominated novels in the mail once a month all summer.

I’m still totally into BSG. 24 is the show I’m waning on. The last few weeks it has sat on Tivo for a couple of days until I got around to watching it.
