What’s playing in Jay’s car?

Okay, folks, the only rule is: no Google! Now, who can name the band I’m listening to these days in my car? Here’s a few lyrical snippets from one of their albums…

“It can’t be all coincidence
Too many things are evident
You tell me you’re an unbeliever
Spiritualist? Well me I’m neither
But wouldn’t you like to know
The truth?”

“There’s a time to live and a time to die
When it’s time to meet the maker
There’s a time to live but isn’t it strange
That as soon as you’re born you’re dying”

“Only the good die young
All the evil seem to live forever”

There you have it. The band is…?

  1. I didn’t google, but I checked the 1989 Ekatak and I know the answer! Do I get a prize if I tell, or should I give someone else a chance?

  2. Oh duh. I only listened to that album one summer during or just after college. It’s not etched in my brain. Earlier albums are still there in digital even if I only listened to analog. The Crimean War song is fully functioning still.

  3. Mom, I had no idea I had used one of these quotes… I guess I’ve gone full circle, since I probably haven’t listened to the album since 1989.

  4. Mark, that particular album has aged very well, in my opinion. They managed to navigate the waters of ’80s metal without indulging in many of its more dated excesses (very few Howard Dean-like screams…). I suppose that can suffice as our first hint for the larger reading public.

  5. I’m here, and that is easy! Since you guys keep tap dancing around the band name, I’ll withhold too. That said, they recently reformed, and the new album is very true to their roots. ( I don’t own it, but I did listen to song samples on web)
